We saw the spaceshuttle take off!!

The girls and I went to Titusville and saw the space shuttle go up..... Girls said that it was really loud and there was a tone of traffic.  Belle was so hungry when we left she wasn't sure it was worth the drive.  I saw the shuttle go up when I was in Sixth grade and remember the heat and the load sound that took what seemed like a long time to get to us.... This time we heard the loud sound which took about 6 minutes to get to us and really didn't feel the heat... last time I was right on the river - this time we were behind a group of people that we couldn't see over there heads - but what a memory.

We also learned about George Washington - A Kids Discover magazine  here are the video of what the girls learned...

Mind blowing Colorful Jiggly Crystals

So we made dancing water with an acid, base and polyacrylamide crystals.... we made the dancing water with the base and acid and red cabbage powder and then added the crystals.  The girls guessed that the crystals would soak up all the water and make them bigger.  They were right except we put some in the basic solution - those crystals turned blue and the acidic solution turned red.

The question of the day was why do mongooses eyes turn red when they get mad.... We found out that they turn red when they are fighting snakes - like Rikki-tikki-tavi  what a great movie and book...

We also got to look at really old cars, like Fords, Pierce Arrows, Stanley Steamers... It funny the girls named all the old cars from the move CARS. We learned how a Stanly Steamer goes and watched while one guy hand cranked his car to get it to start - 3 times. What a great way to learn about old cars, and the best way to see how they work is to see them up close.....

Later we got kind of bored looking at the cars so we went and played at the huge playground and we saw this guy doing a flip to get off the swing... I couldn't believe it so I took a movie... check it out...

The girls and I found the coolest thing at Target the other day and they love them. For one dollar apiece we got times table cards, states, presidents and division. Right now we are working on the states, learning the capitals and learning the times tables. This works great for Belle too, I ask her to add the numbers and ask Mac to multiply the numbers.

We finished the Kenx and it works!!!!!

We finally finished the Kenx project and it actually works!!!!!  Yea I thought we would never get that done, but it is so exciting that it works!!!!

So the big question yesterday was Why are elephants so big???  Why do they have such big ears?? They are the fatest land animal and they have such big ears to keep them cool.... Which led to looking up there skin texture, there size, baby animal and they live in groups that protect the babies.... and much more....

We also found a really big green moth....

So I had McKenzey look up green moth on my phone, then she got interested in the pink and other colored moths and set there read all about them and different insects it was very interesting...

How long does it take to carve an crocodile out of wood.....?!?

Well, all day but man was it fun watching. We watched for a good hour the first time and then 30 minutes for the second and third time.  When we came back to get the final project Mr. Andrew let each girl help carve the new one he was working on and help shine up the one we got.  He only used 2 tools, which was very cool and one paint color.  In all it took about 6-7 hours from start to finish.

We also met this really nice retired teacher who taught us a neat trick with 9 tables. We are currently working on our times tables.

Here is how it works....

Funny story - McKenzey was so excited about learning that she has told everyone she has met about it. She told another little girl in second grade about it, a man we met at Best Buy, and some kid's dad on the playground.  The funnest was when we were waiting at Best Buy. While I was talking to someone she showed a guy sitting beside us, and I of course didn't realize till the end what she was doing.  As we were leaving he was holding up all 10 fingers and trying each 9 times table on his fingers to see if it works - I was laughing hysterically.

The last question of the day was what makes that airship fly? There is one flying over the Daytona Raceway For the Daytona 500 this weekend.  So we discussed Helium, a colorless, tasteless, orderless, non-toxic, gas that is lighter than air.  It was discovered by Norman Lockyer.  This also went into how cars move and what else can we use to make cars move.  What make a hot air balloon float?  I think we might do a science project with that tomorrow....

$ 2 dollars doesn't buy much anymore, but it does buy two hours of fun

I love it when I can spend $2 on my kids and they are entertained for 2 hours playing with bubbles, and running around at the park/playground.

We also put the address on some of our Valentine's Day cards - I don't know if they will ever make it to those people we selected but it was good practice any who.... and yes we were in our PJs most of the day. School is so much more fun when you get enough sleep and don't have to get dressed to do any work...YEA!

Gymanstics!!!

The girls took it easy most of the morning. We did try and go walk around the lagoon by the library to play with the bubble wand that we got, but it was way to cold. We came back and did some worksheets with LOTS of rejection  - I guess real school gave them a bad taste in their mouths when it has to do with worksheets.

These are very blurry pictures of the girls doing gymnastics - They started last night....
The funny thing is at one point they were hanging on a bar, and they had to keep their feet off the ground and chin above the bar and hang on till one dropped... Belle won twice, but Mac made it all the way up to the ceiling when she climbed the rope.  Belle could only make it to the second knot.  Mrs Jamie said they did really well for their first time and maybe with in a year or so we can start competing - that is still under discussion they have a long way to go....

Craft Day

So have you ever wanted to use so much glitter that your whole body was covered in it? Well we did, and man are we sparkly....... The girls made valentine cards....
Mac worked on her favorite game which was Sally Sauna - you have to get people through the sauna without making them mad...which is very hard but lots of fun....

Belle made a nest with eggs, a momma bird and a baby bird.  I gave her a book on animals and she figured out the shapes to make the bird and did it all by herself.  She did several cranes which we cut up and added to the eggs to make them colorful..... i am so proud of her..... :)

\

Mac found a bunch of tiny Christmas lights which she decided need to be sorted and untangled, she is my neat girl.  She got them all neat and wants to use them on our next project...

Happy Friday, take it easy day...

Today we got up and made a tent out of blankets, and our table..... and watched Disney channel

We colored pictures of several princesses....

Then we went to garden and the science museum and found all the plants on the signs and learned about local animals that lived in the forest and had a nice long walk...

\

The coolest thing we saw was a parakeet that came into chick-fil-a. He wouldn't talk to us or let us take a picture but he was really pretty and kept showing off for us.

Isabelle woke up happier than ever because her first tooth is loose...

Beach Day!!!

#25 - Expose more, teach less...... Beach day, when its 81 and you haven't been swimming in months it's a beach day!!  We mostly chased the seagulls - ( I have never seen so many) and played in the water and it was freezing.  We found a dead stingray that had chunks out of it and lots of jelly fish.

Then we played at the playground next to the beach for a good hour, wow and met 3 new friends.

After we got back and took a warm shower, I wouldn't let the girls turn on the TV. They both went and found something to do.... I found Mac sometime later playing a fun math game, adding double digit  numbers, doing multiplication and a fraction game. Then she explained to me how fractions work, very interesting....

I found Belle reading to her stuff toys, and then later I caught her posing each bear she had and then drawing them one by one in her drawing book.
